The right advice leads to faster employment Bondi, Thursday 31 July- For Felicity Clothier and Michael O'Connor of Bondi, finding employment has meant that they are one step closer to achieving their dream career, and making a lifelong friendship has been just one of the bonuses of sharing their experiences in the federal governments Job Network. “I moved from Tasmania to New South Wales in April looking for more job opportunities, and tried applying for numerous vacancies on my own. Even with a Diploma in IT, I realised after a long succession of rejections that at 44 years old, I needed some professional help to work my way back into the job market”, said Felicity. As part of the Federal Government's Job Network, Jobfind Centres in Bondi Junction was able to provide Felicity with help through a Job Search Training (JST) program, where she was able to access a huge database of jobs, gain face-to-face interview training and resume help, and most importantly, get friendly support and advice when she really needed it. “The staff at Jobfind immediately understood my situation as I needed a flexible job so I could continue studying during the day”, said Felicity. “Without their help I would have created an endless paper trail of rejected resumes and I'm grateful they will always be there if I need further assistance”. Michael O'Connor agrees that without Jobfind's help, he wouldn't have been able to find a job so quickly. “The staff at Jobfind were great. Just four days after I walked into the Centre, they managed to find an appropriate interview for me and I secured a job! Without their help, I don't think I could have been so focused or as confident in my abilities”. Before turning to Jobfind for help, Michael had taken four years from work to become a carer for his father who was diagnosed with cancer. “Trying to get back into the workforce after such a long absence was pretty difficult, but the staff were really helpful and I was able to start work within a week”, said Michael. Michael and Felicity, who struck up a friendship when they completed JST together, were pleased to find themselves working together. With Jobfind's help, they secured flexible part-time jobs in commercial cleaning so they can continue to pursue their studies in their own time. “Meeting and sharing experiences with other people who all wanted to improve their situation was really motivational and inspiring for me. Now with a job that fits in with my lifestyle, I can work towards my goal of completing my floristry course over the next couple of years so I can achieve my dream of becoming a florist”, said Felicity.
